Parents as TeachersParents as Teachers We are pleased to announce that the Arapahoe County Early Childhood Council (ACECC) has been certified to offer a Parents as Teachers (PAT) program to serve families throughout Arapahoe County. The vision of Parents as Teachers is that all children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential. This early prevention program is based on the beliefs that parents are the first-and most influential teachers-of their children, and that the early years lay the foundation for children's success in school and in life. Parents are supported by PAT-certified parent educators who are trained to translate scientific information on early brain development into specific when, what, how and why advice for families. ACECC is now accepting referrals for any child between the ages of birth to three years old. Family participation in Parents as Teachers is voluntary and is a free service to families offered through ACECC. The PAT program in Arapahoe County is a universal access program. Families who are referred to the program receive regular, ongoing visits with PAT-certified parent educators, group meetings for parents to enhance their parenting knowledge, and periodic developmental screenings that include vision, hearing and health. We hope that you will take the time to familiarize yourself with the benefits of PAT and will start to refer families today. Brochures and referral forms will be mailed to you and are for you to distribute to families. Contact us with any questions. Eileen Auer Bennett |
