Finding Quality Childcare
Choosing Childcare for your young child should be a positive experience for your family. Always remember that selecting childcare is an important decision that strikes a balance between your needs as a busy parent and the developmental needs of your child.
Childcare Navigator The Child Care Navigation Project began in July of 2009 to increase successful enrollment of children into quality child care centers and homes. The navigation project is funded by Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) and is located at the Arapahoe County Department of Human Services. The child care navigator works together with the TANF team to make certain that families eligible for TANF or CCAP benefits have access to quality child care options and assists them in navigating the system to ensure enrollment. A CareGiver Network is a non-profit organization founded for the purpose of offering support and training to all child care professionals who work with young children. A CareGiver Network believes that both a strong support foundation and continuing education lead to the development of quality child care professionals. Arapahoe County Family Childcare Association is a non-profit organization that began over 30 years ago, and currently has a membership of approximately 200 Licensed Family Child Care Providers in Arapahoe County whose goal is to provide working parents with useful information regarding quality child care, as well as provide a network for child care providers. 2-1-1 Referrals United Way's 2-1-1 is a free, multilingual service that is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week and refers callers to non-emergency health and human services.
Qualistar To find quality child care in your area look for programs with a Qualistar Rating and download their Qualistar Report for more detailed information on all aspects of the program.
Working Your Way through the Child Care Maze, a publication in partnership with Bright Beginnings Colorado, is a tool for parents to use when searching for quality child care.
Is This the Right Place for My Child? 38 Research-Based Indicators of High-Quality Child Care (PDF) This user-friendly booklet contains a checklist of 38 questions that parents can ask to evaluate the quality of child care programs. Unlike most guidelines for selecting child care, this booklet explains why each question is important and how it relates to the quality of care, based on research about what is important to children's health, safety, and development.
